Left turn pulls weak, right turn ok

Is it possible for the differential to slip in one direction more than another?

When making a left hand turn (especially from a stop) and accelerating, the car feels like it's pulling a semi, whereas a right-hand turn feels strong and pulls hard (in fact the car will spin out sometimes [unintentionally]).

Any advice? Anyone had this happen?

I don't know much about the tranny in this beast. I have done the timing belt, ball joints, power-steering, etc.. myself, but I am clueless in this area...

Possibly a number of things. Could be worn/loose tie rod ends or your ball joints. Jack the car up and check for play in these areas. My Bimmer has a similar problem where left turns are "tight" whereas right turns are "loose". I'm gonna do some troubleshooting this weekend.

Does this feel like it takes more effort to turn one way more than the other way or is it an issue that you have more power turning one way than the other?

If it's a power issue, it's got to be somewhere in the tranny/axles/CV joints.
If it's a turning effort issue, it's probably the springs in the steering gear gone out ( mine's like that now).

I just had the control arm off on both sides to fix another issue (Ball joint bolt was stripped and causing the top of the control arm to "pop" in and out. - FIXED!! )and I did replace the tie rods about 6 months ago.

I really think this is a transmission related issue.

Do you know if these transmissions have a limited slip?

Definately not a steering issue. I do have to rebuild the pump, but that is not the issue. It is definately in the power delivery to the wheels.

I imagine it like so...

If (from a stop sign/light for example) you take a left and accelerate to speed, during the acceleration, the car feels like the parking brake is on slightly. The harder I accelerate the worse it feels.

On a right hand turn the car accelerates perfectly, pulls strong...

So then, does the transmission accelerate the left wheel more on a right turn? It feels to me like the power just can't get to the wheel properly on one side and the turning while accelerating is telling me whats wrong, I just don't know enough about the transmission to diagnose..

Parking brake drum/shoes are probably locked on that side.

That would have been my thought too... I'd be taking a look behind that front tire.

Front tire??? I think you mean the back, right?

How does the parking brake system work? Do you know of a diagram anywhere?
