What would you rather have in your garage?

Discuss.

Of those two...959 hands down. The 959 was the car that got me interested in cars. And now they're legal to import to the U.S.! I think the Carrera GT is ugly and overpriced. Not a big fan of carbon fiber either.

I think the best looking Porsche of all time is the road-going version of the 962...

Well you didn't say we were going to PAY for it right?

GT all the way!

Only (arguably) the baddest car money can buy...

And I like the way it looks!

I'd opt for the garage.

Why only one, if you can afford either, you can probably afford both!
Besides, wouldn't that be a beautiful sight every morning? Oh, the dilemma, what to drive today?

959!

Definitely! It's the first Porsche I "really" got interested in. . . It'll be more of a collector's item for far longer than the CGT ever will be. Then again, if I got the CGT I could actually DRIVE it once in a while. . .

CGT hands down. The closest I'd ever come to owning the bat-mobile.

sorry has to be the 959. Classic Styling from the late 80s which I adore so much. Can you imagine taking that out through NYC to the clubs one night lol.

Retrofit it with Xenon Headlights and Im set.

And whats the deal with importing them now? I thought it was still illegal cuse Porsche never gave them ones to crash test. The only person I know who has one is Jerry Seinfeld, and its sitting in his 10 car garage in Manhattan. NOT allowed to drive it anywhere (not even on the track I think..)

I read up on them online once, and so far a few were rumored to be around (one being owned by Bill Gates), but customs would not let any in at all, much less if you were caught looking the other way and let one in youd lose your job. For some reason the US gov't is VERY hard on that car, compared to others.

959 models have been legal in the US for some time now. Bruce Canapa's business (for one) federalises them. There are several other cars allowed in once they comply with the "show and display" laws.
There is, I believe, a maximum mileage the cars are allowed to do a year.

The local Porsche rep for this region was filling me on on the CGT - they just replaced a clutch under warranty here in Florida.

$17,000

If I had the choice, I would go with the 959. More for the providence of ownership rather than by performance. Though if I was filthy rich, I would get both.

Thats a tough call, both cars have there advantage. I live in Chicago so the 959 has the advantage of AWD. But I think I remember reading in Excellence that it doesn't have the most "user friendly" transmission. The CGT is just balls out fast but just doesn't seem like it would be that comfortable of a ride. Now I'm all about the GT2. 0-60 is .2 sec slower than the CGT and its top speed is like 6mph slower. 0-60 of 4 flat and top speed of 198 for half the price...sign me up for that!

I have seen legal 959's at Cali car shows for $250K

Don't hate me but I never cared much for the 911 body style, just my taste.
