car cranks, but doesn't start
hey everyone, me and my dad just finished putting the engine back together and we tried starting it......turns but no start.....we have spark, and i'm thinking maybe the fuel injectors? also, the vacuum lines aren't connected....would that matter if we just wanted to start the car to make sure it runs right?
|
it's looks like injectors prablem, I saw ssamthing like this whith old engine....
|
All the vacuum lines have to be connected to their proper points. Otheriwise the flap in the AFS (Air Flow Sensor) doesn't work. If the AFS doesn't flap then the brain doesn't know how much to inject.

I do know that you have to have some of the vacuum likes connected and the AFM needs to be connected Speed Transmitter and Reference Mark Transmitter need to be connected as well.

alright, i'll (try to) figure out where the vacuum lines go, my dad pulled them all apart, and then connect AFM......if that doesn't work, i'll check injectors.......but first, sleep sounds good right now :o

Try a shot of ether. If it catches, the timing position of the belt is OK.Then, after scoping out the vanuum lines, loosen up the nut on the end of the fuel rail (make sure you put a rag under it to (a) prevent gas from dripping into distributor...very bad and (b) so you don't lose the sealing ball in the rail. Attach a 3/8 dia hose to the end of the fuel rail and put the other end into a clear container. See if there is gas flow. If there is, replace the end cap. Disconnect one fuel injector and try cranking. If it starts, the fuel pressure is too high and the regulator requires replacement. If there is no fuel flowing, then the problem is either the relay that operates the fuel pump or the fuel pump itself. Hope this helps. Go at it systematically and I am sure you will find the answer.

oh one more thing, should i already put the coolant in if i just want to see if it'll start and run for a couple minutes?
|
Besides the vacuum lines you didn't have the AFS connected?
|
nope, dad said didn't need to but i thought otherwise, well, im working on it right now so we'll see.......
|
oh, and if i remember correctly, i purchased the turbo water pump for my n/a, so that means the outlet on the water pump doesn't connect to anything, right?
|
yeah, the smaller outlet for the turbo should be blocked off. There's really only one water-pump and the Turbo folks have to unblock that passage to use for the turbo. There's been plenty a mechanics who forgot that part...
And it's is an imperative MUST that you have all the vacuum lines hooked up. The fuel-pressure is adjusted based upon intake-manifold pressure, so without the lines hooked up, you'll have way, way too much fuel-pressure. The spark-plugs can't ignite liquid fuel, only vaporized air-fuel mixture. |

All fluids should be present on initial startup. Double check speed and ref sensor connections and DME relay for fuel management. Danno, as always, is dead on.

alright, well i'll get on it tomorrow and let you guys know how things go...........http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/yawn.gif
