Boxster Rims on an 87 Turbo?

I recently put on the entire suspension of an 87 Turbo including hubs, rotors, arms, steering rods etc onto my 1985.5 NA. I also got a great deal on a set of boxster 17" rims. I was told by the seller (a very helpful guy) that these rims would have no problem fitting....well as you all can probably guess they didn't fit. The dust cap on the front hubs is just a bit to large and the wheel will not fit over it. So I had a friend machine about 0.5mm out of the inside of the rims and now they fit perfectly However, the center caps will not go on because the dust cover sticks out about 0.05mm to far! Any ideas???? I was thinking about putting a small spacer behind the center caps, but that would look a little silly.

I have a '91 S2 which has the Turbo wheels, hubs, and calipers. I put a set of 17" Twist wheels like the Boxster's on it. You will need a set of spacers that slide on over lugs, on at least the front. Depending on the offset of the wheel which is the distance from where the back of the wheel meets the hub to the edge of the wheel next to the fender, there is a good explanation at www.tirerack.com if your confused. You'll find the offset on back of the wheel in the serial number, it follows the letters ET. My 17 inchers are 50-55 which is 50-55 mm. I got 1\4" (6mm) spacers for the front and they fit, the rears didn't need them. You can find spacers on EBAY I paid $20. You won't hardly notice them once you the wheels on, and it makes the stock wheels look better because they are pushed out to the fenders. If you have questions like I did contact www.wheelenhancement.com they are really helpful, and know a lot more then I do.

Are you saying the part sticking back into the wheel on the dust cover is too deep? Why can't you just take an angle grinder and grind a .5" off the back side of that flange?

"However, the center caps will not go on because the dust cover sticks out about 0.05mm to far!"

If you look at the centercaps closely, you'll see that the legs that clip into the hole in the wheel touches the bearing-cover before the centercap is fully seated. You can use a grinder to trim the tip of those legs a little and the cap will fit. Be careful not to grind too much, you want enough of the hook remaining to hold the centercap on.

On some cars, the bulge in the bearing cover touches too early as well. Just heat up the cover to a dark cherry-red with a torch and smack it with a mallet to flatten it by about 1mm in the middle.

Yeah I actually cut off all of the extra plastic on the back of the center cap and it still doesn’t fit. However, I never thought about heating up the dust cover and pushing in the center...hmmm I like that idea Thanks for the input

BTW - you want to heat up the bearing-cap off the car so you don't heat up the hub and boil the grease.
