32 valve 928 v8 + 944?
Is it even possible? And if so has anyone seen one?

Hmm... I haven't heard of it being done in a 944, but there's a 914 guy in MN that has done it. It'd be a beastly machine, that's for sure.
It's possible, anything's possible with enough money. At least if you go that way it'll still be all Porsche.

There is, somewhere on the net a 944 with a 928 engine in it. It required a tubular front end to be fabricated because that is one very wide engine.

If a 350 Chev can fit, the 928 will fit but with heaps of work, it would
be better than the Chev motor for weight alone. Do it... fun driving Russell..

Also from what I understand, a 928 engine is not lighter than a SBC.

The 928 you're thinking of was created by Kelly moss racing and puts out over 700 hp.
Go to http://www.kellymoss.com/ and click on "race-dept." at the bottom of the page, then on the 944GTR project.

Having examined some of the options (but not actualy done anything about it!) It appears the earlier 928 16v 4.7ltr engine would be an easier fit. Its narrower and lighter than the latter engines, if its out of a euro spec 928S you're looking at a healthy 300 bhp.
You would probably need a custom motor sport style pedal box to move the brake master cylinder out of harms way and a remote servo. Keeping power steering may also be a problem but the manual rack is not too bad. Anyway thats just my train of thought, might be worth considering if you want to avoid the obvious "renegade" style conversion. PS Newby here, its a tad quiet on Rennlist tonight ! |

I think things are in a state of shock after the latest crucification of Danno/Guru racing. .......... But back on topic. It would of been a dream to have seen a 944 with the V8 engine. .......... sigh... or at least a factory 3.0 Turbo .
