advice needed - reinstalling stock 968 springs w/Koni Yellows

One of the previous owners installed some aftermarket parts including Koni shocks (8040-1035 Sports, and 8741-1136L Sports) and Weltmeister springs SP-200. In addition there is the model 133.412.341 spring perch. My 968 also has Weltmeister sway bars front and rear. Parts were ordered from Paragon.

I want to go back to the stock springs to soften the ride slightly, but also to get back to the stock ride height and wheel clearance.

My question is what do I need to accomplish that? Will the current front shocks/struts work fine with the original springs or is there something else that I would need to purchase or change to re-install the original springs?

I’m not aware of any changes to the torsion bars in the rear so I believe they are stock.

I've gotten some feedback that says that I have to go back to the standard struts in order to use the stock springs and that doesn't make this stock spring idea seem too appealing.

Lastly if I do this work are there any other maintenance items that you would definitely do while you had the car apart? My car only has 56,000 miles on it so it is still relatively ‘new’ in that sense.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

I saw your post on another board, I am also very confused when it comes to suspension items. I have looked through numerous threads and it looks like it is never the same answer.

I'll start with what I have read and that is nothing more than word of mouth but here it goes.

Torsion Bars: will/can be used to adjust ride height to an extent by re-indexing.

Shocks: will have a limit to their amount of travel, I guess determining that will be good to know, if they are over extending or not able to extend/compress to an adequate distance you will likely damage them or other weaker points first time you hit a pothole or other obsticle.

Springs/Sways: I would look to find out what stock LB/#'s and sizes were and make a decision from there.

As for the perches, I really have no clue. I would guess that somone here will have an opinion or an idea.

I have read a few threads about people having "thunking" sounds when things aren't done right when it comes to spring and strut travel. Read up on what stock was.

As for the other things while apart: Bushings and any other "rubber or silicone" parts that are subject to wear and weathering. At .50-.75c per piece it would be worth it IMO to do it.
