I think your S head will bolt onto an S2, but i'm not sure. Read this post for some background info. This post is about fitting a 968 head onto a S2, but on pg 2 "carsontc" starts talking about how the S head compares to the S2 and 968.

944 S2 w/968 head?

It seems like the head will physically bolt-on. Whether it will work properly or not, is a completely different story........

bearone2:
I am not sure an S head will work with an S2 block. My understanding is that an S2 head is more robust, therefore, I suspect that they are not interchangeable. I do know that the S2 and 968 heads are different for sure.

My car developed a cracked head last year, so I CAN tell how about how much it's going to cost to fix. Are you sitting down? Good. Soup to nuts, it's gonna run about $5500.00.

i was sitting down.

that's probably why the owner of the potential S2 has been sitting too.

the S block is based on the 2.5L (100mm) while the S2 & 968 are 3.0L (104mm or 'big bore')

turbo folks using a 2.5L head on 3.0L block have to modify water passages (involves cutting and welding the head)...but often these mods fail or leak not to mention the 2.5L head has smaller intake ports etc so the 3.0L engine would have it’s breathing constricted

I suppose it's possible to do but anything is possible
