nice paint job

I want to repaint my car in near future. It is mostly straight with a small dent in front between headlights that I can't figure how to pop back out. My question is, how much should I expect to spend on a really nice paint job. And where would you recomend i get it painted? If it helps the porsche is not my daily driver and could be left for quite some time just as long as i have it for the summer!!

I live in NH about an 1 1/2 hours from Boston and would be willing to take the car pretty far if I felt it was woth it!

I am friends with Damian Who ownes Series 900 which is in my town, but he paints higher end cars and charges too much for me He quoted me at $2500. 00

any ideas also how can I pop out my dent?

thanks
Chip

I'd say $2500 sounds fairly reasonable if that includes all the prep work. Its the prep work that makes the difference between a good and bad paint job.

Asking if you should replace that timing belt is like asking if you should re-use a condom that may have in hole in it with a hooker.

really!! wow that is way more than I expected to pay. I wonder if the price goes up because it is a porsche. I had a lot of body work done on my honda to fix the rusty situation that it was and a pretty nice paint job all for 1500. It looks great or good enough for a daily driver with 200k on it. I never mind putting money into that car whatever it needs I am more than willing to do. She never seems to have anything go wrong!! I feel like it is the perfect companion for the porsche. And with the 5 speed it is pretty fun to drive. anyway i am ranting!!

$2500 is cheap for a good paint job!! A high quality job at a good reputable shop normally will run you $5K+

Chip,

There are a lot of different ideas and ways to approach this. It really up to you and what you want out of the paint job. Some of the things that you are looking at are:

1. Are you planning on re-coloring the car, change the color? This is not cheep!

2. Is there a lot of bodywork that needs to be done, sanding and filling?

3. What are you expecting a 2-5yr "looks good" or a 10+ year job?

The best results can be achieved through a panel off re-paint with a LOT of prep time. The more time the better the results. I just had a conversation with one of my neighbors today that owns a dent removal company. He only works on dents or paintless repair. He will NOT touch anything requiring repaint or re-clear!

He recently did a body off rebuild of a 67 or 68 Camaro and he spent more than 6K getting it repainted. He said that it was still not right and trust me it was BEAUTIFUL!

If you think that 2500 was too much find out what they were doing? Carpet and panels out? How much prep was involved?

Let us know how thing work out as I am sure that there are others interested in a 2500 paint job.

Michael
