924S (and spouse) problems
My wife has mentioned that on occasion, her 924S would backfire on a cold start. I just had it in the shop for an alignment and completely forgot to mention it. Just got a phone call from her....Yep.. upon starting it this morning, it again backfired and this time refuses to start. She is not pleased. Any ideas on what the might be?

Backfiring is usually a symptom of a mis-times engine.
For example, I did my first belt job on an '84 944 (same engine as your 924S) and I forgot to use thread locker on the rotor bolt. Consequently the rotor bolt came out which caused the car to back fire and refuse to start. Of course this could also be caused by belts....

The timing belt can not be off more than a couple of teeth before the valves hit. I would suspect the cap and rotor. A loose rotor.
