Northeast Pelicaners - anyone going to DE at Limerock on thursday?

Hey guys,

Title pretty much says it all. Anyone else running in the Driver's Ed at Limerock Park on this thursday the 31st? Hudson Valley PCA club is sponsoring it. I just got accepted on saturday. I'll be there in the green group with the white 968, car number 968 (I must be the only 968 running)

unfortunately, i can't make it on those dates. I was wondering if you make the trek from NJ to northwestern Ct. I wish i could make it. I checked with NNJR, and the green group signup is low.

Mike:
Lime Rock Park is one of my top three tracks! (Mid-Ohio and VIR being the other two!)

I've been going to LR twice a year since 2001, but last fall I couldn't make it due to mechanical issues (cracked head)

Maybe i'll catch you up there in the fall. When is the fall NNJR event?

I'll be there... there are still openings for Red, Black and White drivers.

Temp should be in the high 50s for the rest of the week, snow is melting like crazy...

Just got off the phone with one of the folks who works there and PDA is driving today...

See all you drivers there!

The NNJR 'fall' event will be June 24-25 this year.

Yes, June. It's a little early for our fall event, but oh well....

Nope, it just has to pass a pre-track technical inspection, have a proper helmet, and you have to be a member of PCA (or sometimes BMWCCA).

Each group that puts on the events makes its own rules, but they tend to follow the national guidelines.

I drive several 944 turbos at the track that are neither licensed nor have roll cages or rollbars.

It helps that I'm the NNJR track tech chairperson.

Bluebullet: no special racing license is required for DE's you gotta try it - you will be addicted before the end of your first event!

Yeah later this year I would be very interested in trying the new car out. I would imagine that my maintenance has to be up to par, along with the ball joints, brakes, brakefluid, bushings, etc. Does it beat on your car a lot when you go road racing?

You should take a look at the websites of the regions in your area that organize driver education programs. They will typically have tech forms available which will give you an idea of what is going to pass or fail.

As far as "beating" your car up, I guess that I should say that I have been "beating" my 83 944 at the track for 17 years now with no failures. I drive my car to the track, empty it out, put on my helmet, drive the pi$$ out of it, load it up, and drive it home. Of course, YMMV...

Wanna know what the best 'go-fast' goodie is for your car? SEAT TIME! Seriously, the best drivers are the ones who know how to drive their car. Besides, it's more fun driving a 'slow' car fast than driving a 'fast' car slow! Granted, my 944S2 has a bit more power than your car, but I've been driving it on the track in stock form and having a blast!

As for what is inspected at a tech, visit the NNJR site and download our tech form. That's typically what most regions check over. Bottom line: if your car is in good mechanical condition, you should have no problems passing tech.

Here's the link to our tech download page: Click HERE.
Do a 'right click, save as' on the form called: "NNJR Driver's Ed Tech Form (DOC).

HTH,
-Z.
