944S Muffler? Mixed Info?

Anyone know what mufflers (OEM and aftermarket) fit the 87-88 944S (16-valve)? Been getting mixed information on what does and does not fit.

Thanks!

The 944S (M44.40 engine code) uses part number 944 111 041 03 as a rear muffler. This is shared only with the 1989 944 8V (M44.11/12 engine code) The early 944 uses a different part. Now I don't whether you could make the normal 944 muffler fit as I've never tried.

I just put a Dansk system on my 944S two days ago. It fits fine. The only issue I have is the hangers...but I think anyone who used a Dansk exhaust would have the same issues.

It uses the same muffler as the S2 as well - I replaced mine with a '90 with no problems a few years ago. Got it from Partsheaven.com for about $200.

I heard someone say that some derivative of the 924 uses the same part as well - but don't hold me to this one.

I believe the 924 muffler had a strap around it - it works different, but the parts can be adapted with a little welding. I'm not sure of all the derivatives though. Any universal muffler can be made to work with a little welding work though!

i have a cat by pass for the 87s i bought. makes a great addition to an exhaust. when i get home i will take it out of the box and check if it is bolt in or weld in. if you are interested let me know....... actually it is used so i guess that would mean it bolts in since it was removed before i took possession of the car huh? well i will check to be sure, if you are interested let me know.
