951 question

I just need more power and want a newer car. With everything working AC nice interior ext!!!

How much do i have to spend to get a 951 that needs nothing. I know this may sound crazy but i would much rather pay more for one that is perfect.

Musts
New clutch
less than 100k
new water pump timing belt
new wastegate
rebuilt turbo
working ac
no leaks
new motor mounts

Essentially everything that I have replaced on my NA
it is just so easy to spend thousands on repairs i would rather just buy one that is perfect

It may be tough finding a car with all the criteria, but you should be able to find something with most of it. I would say for a car you are describing expect to pay in the $9000+ range.

In the April edition of Excellence magazine the latest Porsche market update was for the 924, 944, 968 series.
Here are the average prices for excellent cars (they also sitegood and poor examples):

1986 - $9700
1987 - $10900
1988 - $11150
1988 Turbo S - $12638
1989 - $13813

your requirements are too... exclusive? if you can find something that comes close, just pay to have it done as soon as you get it. You will have a HARD time (if not impossible) getting something that qualifies for all those.

Also check the controls arms. The turbos have the aluminum control arms with irreplacable ball joints. Oh and the steering rack too. I had the unfortunate double wammy on that combination. Rack leaked and ruined ball joint. Not sure what the parts cost is US dollars today but control arms are $700 CDN each and so was a new steering rack.

I switched by arms to steel ones with replaceable ball joints from Markus Blazak. Two arms for the price of one.

Well you're not likely to find one with all of those parts replaced, especially the wastegate and rebuilt turbo. I've owned a 944 turbo that didn't use oil, didn't smoke and was on the factory un-touched turbocharger at 140+k. Motor mounts are also trivial.

I would budget around $10k and look for a car that was well maintained, and felt tight. Go drive several examples before you buy one.

Bula- my car for sale hits a lot of your criteria. The A/C is bunk, used to work and then stopped. I've been on a crusade for years irradicating leaks. Clutch is relatively new (4 years or so), belts all done. New leather, new paint. Looks gorgeous. Check out my maintenance spreadsheet on my website:

Most every used 951 is going to need some work, unfortunately there's a bit of luck involved. Some higher mileage examples have a lot of trouble free miles in them, but a 70k mileage example might have a #2 bearing that's almost ready to go.
Even with a ppi you're going to have some surprises. Be sure to get a ppi from a very well chosen mechanic, the ppi is only as good as the mechanic who's doing it.

I've been working on 944s since their inception. I'm not saying that 944 engines don't fail but the usual reasons for rod bearing failure are either: owner runs engine low on oil (most common), car raced or tracked with low oil level or extensive racing.
There are other reasons, including modifications that don't work, excessive boost or just "it happens" syndrome etc, etc..
Apart from that I wouldn't be concerned with mileage, whether for a turbo or NA version.
If this rod bearing failure problem was widespread, there would be more posts on the board and we would have a bunch of them in the shop.
And I would be lying on the beach in Hawaii relaxing because of all the money we'd made rebuilding the engines.
