front wheel plates

I have noticed on my front wheels that there are plates on the back side of the wheel keeping the entire rotor hidden.

What is the purpose of these plates?

I would think that you wouldn't want a plate there so that you can keep your brakes cooler.

I've seen plates like that marketed for keeping brake dust off your wheels....not a good payoff, IMHO, considering the lack of airflow.

Thanks, I agree, I plan on taking them off next week if they are not important.

They've been on every car I've ever had with disc brakes. I guess their purpose is to help keep crap off the rotors, but are they really that helpful?

I think you might be thinking of the metal cover on the inboard side of the rotor.

auh, is probably referring to the extra cover that goes between the wheel and rotor. These are intended to help keep brake dust off your wheels, or if you are a Honda guy they can be used to hide your tiny rotors....

Now, I've never seen one of those. Were they standard on our cars?...
I spoke about the only metal cover I've ever known, and I guess it wasn't the right one

between your wheel and your brakes.
