The worm is turning

This was in the Daily Telegraph this Friday.
Just remember that there were only 1503, 944,s sold in Australia over the 10 years of production. Although many have been imported from the U.S. I own number 4 Australian ROW car.

"Looks like a Lemon" ?!?

So they recycled material left over from Car & Driver circa 1985 and called it news...
"Traditional Porsche enthusiasts don't rate them real Porsches" Uh, hello this is 2005, Porsche doesn't have traditional enthusiasts anymore, they all went away when the 911 went aircooled. ;) Note to self: Cayenne real Porsche, 944 still not real.

IMHO, the "UN-real" Porsches are the best drivers. I love my 911SC, but it's for reasons other than the shear driving pleasure of my '92 CAB. I love 'em all, but the 914-916-924to 968, the best Porsche BARGAINS out there.
And FWIW, I get five times as many compliments on my 968 as my 911, and both are equally nice.

I wish we could read the entire article, it looks interesting. Every once in a while there's an article critical of the increasing number of inexpensive 944's out there and the illusion of prestige motoring at an affordable price. I'm one of the people looking for a 944 right now. I can count many reasons for wanting one, but whether its a "true Porsche" or whether or not there are Audi/VW parts in it or not doesn't number among them. 0-60 times and maintenance costs isn't really a factor either. There are also plenty of MR-2's and whatever else out there, anyway.

I remember reading a "Classic and Thouroughbred Sportscar" article about ten years ago when I had a few MGs detailing the virtues and pitfalls of the 944. At the time I didn't give them much thought. I assumed they were heavy on maintenance and less than stellar performers to boot. Once I became more familiar with them they really came to seem like the technologically and cost sensitive mass produced, serious sports car that they are.

Anyway, post alink if you can, I'd like to give it a closer glance.

I own a 996 and a 951. The 951 is a much better driver-period.

YOu do know your fellow 996 owners may want to lynch you for a comment like that. :D

Only true Porsche enthusiast's can apprecitate cars like 944's...oh and there just as "true" as any 911, believe me I own one

Let them lynch me. I really enjoy my 951, I don't have to worry about resale, theft, being keyed (just because of cost), or living up to the expectations of other "911" owners. Not to mention that now that my 951 has been redone I get more positive comments on it then I do my 996. And I truley enjoy mashing the throttle and smoking N/A "911's". I don't even get on any of the 911 boards because of the "bad blood" between the two "styles". I really think the 944 line saved Porsche and there are times I wish it didn't. I even quit the PCA because I would show uo to and event in my Porsche "poser" and no one would pay attention, then my wife would bring lunch in the 911 and suddenly I was "in". I guess I just like to go against the grain and piss people off when I can. Oh well, enough ranting and raving I need to go put some holes in some teeth!
