Supercharge Kit?

Well i need some input on this issue, i currently own a 1984 944 porsche, i have done alot of body modification, roll cage, sway bars, wide body kit.. and so on, so buying a turbo or later model s, would be stupid. i would lose money.

Well the issue i am addressing is whether or not i should supercharge my NA car. speedforceracing.com says that they offer a supercharge kit. but i have to change my fuel rail and DME to an 85.5 and above. it should boost me to 6-8 psi depending on which model i get. i just want to know if anyone has done this before to an early model 944 and what issues may be a problem. what precautions should i take, as i am not worried about the cost as much as i am worried about getting it done right. and will my drivetrain handle 250-300 hp at the wheels? basically i want to get the maximum amount of hp out of this car that i can without doing something drastic like putting in my bi-turbo supra motor, which i have been contemplating.

i appreciate any insight to this lil problem of mine. all advice will be taken seriously.

So, the options here are either supercharge or swap engine for a supra motor? Or is the "no, swap that crap" to mean, swap the car for an already turbo'd car.

i would swap for a porsche engine, not the supra engine. it would be too much of a pain in my ass to try to balance the car 50/50 for handling. and then the suspension issue would be a headache.

oh and here is a link to the supercharge kit dyno results...222 horsepower, 236 ft/lbs @ wheels @8 psi

Is this mainly a weekend racer or daily driver? IF its a daily driver FORGET everything I am going to say.

In your situation I am not sure if you would be happy with supercharging. $$$ : Benefit ratio is too high. You will spend easily 5K ++++ on this endeavour. Your present setup will not handle 250-300 rwhp so you will need a turbo tranny etc...etc...

SO you have two options: (none cheap either)

1. Acquire a turbo/S2 and swap the goodies you have.

2. Turbo engine/tranny swap. On early cars its much more of a problem but do-able and would cost you a little less than the supercharging idea with much more HP potential.

appreciate the advice, i was thinking that would be the way to go, this car is for the track, and the occasional saturday night red light race. my main goal is to not lose the excellent handling and i think this may be the way.

Try swaping a Turbo motor into it, I think that would be a better option for ya. The aftermarket is there, and so is the info.

I belive most would agree. If you arn't going to sell your car and buy a Turbo, then buy a turbo engine with all the goodies, and swap them in. Turbo engines with all the exaust, wiring, computers, ect can be had for 3500-5000. The turbo engines will give you more bang for the buck then a supercharged NA engine, IMHO. Good luck and keep us informed.
