door handle help please

Trying to adjust my passenger side exterior door handle I broke it in the same exact place as Nynor (my door handle broke this morning...) pics down the page.

I see that new costs over $100. I also saw a link to just the replacement part I need, but it was an ebay link and is no longer valid. I used search but could not find anything helpful.

Anyone have a link for me?
I also see that stamped inside its a vw part, but again I could not find it on the web.

I will buy new or used, I just would like to be able to open it with my current key. Anyone help?

I'm having a pain with mine as well. I got a replacement and for some strange reason adjusting the screw that holds the handle on the door makes it easier or harder to pull the handle, is this meant to happen or is it something I'm doing wrong?! As for the VW Audi part no. - I'm certain they are the same as the mk1 / mk2 Golf (well here in the UK anyway) not sure what Audi maybe a mk1 80?

in the other thread you posted there is mention of not taking the trim panel off. I think this is plain lazy because it gives you not only an infinitly better view but also better access which you will need to take the handle push rod off the door lock. Also the handle could fall and scratch the door!

944online.com has the part you need, i believe. about $25 if memory serves. the updated part is much stouter.

the screw may affect the handle if linkage piece inside needs adjusting. basically, you are changing the geometry of the whole thing as you tighten the screw. you will need to take the panel off, pop the linkage off and turn it around a couple of times and try it again. repeat until door latch works properly.

^^ What he said, but I just adjusted mine to be about the same length as the old piece before I put it in and it worked great!

I don't see the item on ebay now, but this is what you need (it's in the completed listings)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7967065232&category=33696&sspagename=WDVW

You'll have to specify the side of the car it's broken on. Both mine broke around the same time, so you may want to just get both and get it out of the way.

My passenger door handle just broke. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I'm pretty sure that it's the same problem.

Thanks guys, I just went ahead and got the 944online part new. Got some door handle seals as well.

I will tell you how it goes... It wasnt too hard getting it out, just had to be patient. I still haven't decided if I will remove the door panel for re-install or not....

I will tell you how it goes

if i were you, i'd definitely remove the door panel. it'll save you a lot of time and aggravation. i am not sure i'd have been able to do it without removing the panel.
