Windshield replacement cost

Hi, id like to know the average cost of a windshield replacement on a 1987 944NA. My canadian autofixer is asking me about 700CAN$, roughly 570US$. He is asking too much? What a US jobber like Autofix would ask?

Thanks!

A replacement from 89autoglass (http://www.89glass.com/index.html) is $279.32 plus tax and $40 for installation. I just used them to replace the windshield in my 911 (a bit more expensive), and they were great. Hopefully, they are in your area.....

Make sure it includes the embedded antenna. When I priced them 4 years ago, it was around $600 USD, so your estimate sounds accurate.

For a regular non antenna early windshield, I paid $280 USD (including installation). Don't know if this helps at all...

I would be very suprised if anyone does late 944 windshields, with antennas, for that amount. Tomorrow I'll call them and actually find out. Our supplier charges more.

LOL I feel like i got off real cheap on this one. $120 for a used one in excellent condition installed. But that is without the embedded antenna of course.

I am the thread starter. Do i really need embedded antenna? For what it worths? The reception is terrible. If i go without (embedded), what are the options antenna speaking?

And where to find used windshields? These cant be shipped i guess?

Thanks for your help.

If you don't care about the windshield antenna, check you glass suppliers for an early 944 windshield. I have had two early 944 windshields installed on my '86 track car for less than $190 each time. The early windshield is slightly smaller so the Porsche windshield edging will not fit. The glass installer has a "T" shaped edging that is wide enough to cover the gap. He glues it in place and it will look great.

Most likely the power feed for the antenna booster is not connected (small black wire bundled with the normal antenna led) , therefore crappy reception (mine was disconnected when I got my car). Great reception now.

OK, id have a favor to ask. I live in Canada, near the VT or NY state border, about a two-hour drive. Would someone living in that area check for a quote, and then we could arrange an appointment. Online autoglass' web sites doesnt allow foreigners to get a quote.

1987NA 944

Thanks!

I used SafeLite, a brand new windshield with antennae was about $220 installed, complete, at my house. Looks great, no leaks. They are on the net for locations.

Another very important thing to look at is how do you want it installed. I have an 87 turbo so I have the flush mount windshield. Alot of the cars (earlier have the recessed windshield with metal trim. The flush mount requires different moulding between windsheild and body. Also, used windsheilds have a tendency to be missing mouldings or fittings that are bonded onto the windshield for trim, that's a big deal if you want a factory clean look.

Be careful. I believe the shape of the early to late glass is different. There was a thread either here or Rennlist about that about a month ago.

Today's retail of the genuine Porsche windshield (and there are several types) are:

944 541 011 13 (clear with antenna) $662.00
944 541 011 09 (tinted with antenna) $680.00

With fitting and materials extra.

The embedded antenna windshield recently installed on my 911 was just as quoted on 89autoglass. It's Sekurit and was $429.50 installed.

Yep, Safelite. $289 installed, that was a late model, antenna-imbedded windshield. The windshield is the real deal too, Sekurit.

Do NOT buy a Pilkington from Binswanger. In fact, don't do business with them at all. They broke my brand-new hood release handle, and refused to accept responsibilty for it. They also didn't help me with their POS Pilkington windshield that cracked the first day I had it.

Pilkington - learn it, know it, avoid it. Insist on Sekurit.
