944 DME pinout, any one have it?
Hello guys,
Im looking for the pinout of the 944 DME, searching through the forums i found that guy that had the DME info but his site doesnt have the schematics any more, if any one has them if you can email them to me to rdulgarov@hotmail.com I would greatly appretiate it. Or if some one has a text version or whatever version. Im converting my car to a different fuel management system so i need to cut into the harness. I just need to know what pins go to what sensor, etc so i can pick out the fuel injectors and the sensors and tap into them. Thanks in advance. Roman Dulgarov |

Which year? Which model? I can think of at least four variations.

You are wasting your money and time. Get a Wilks chip. Possibly much cheaper.

SoCal might seem grumpy sometimes... but the day he doesn't have the answer, I'll dye my hair pink (or something equally as drastic. I'd say streaking but I (and the chicks, of course) would like that too much).

SoCals advice is solid, be glad he is here.
Is this a dicussion on political correctness, or a car site?

SoCal is someone to rely on. You really can't ask for more than that in this world.

My decision to go with MegaSquirt was influenced by several things.
1. My crank triger sensors went bad and to replace them would have cost more then the MS system. 2. Fixing the sensors would have given me none of the things the MS offers. 3. Im supercharging the engine so I needed a way to tune the fuel maps. 4. I wanted to convert the airflow meter to something other then a barndoor system. MAF is a possibility. but with MS i get MAP for free basically. A completely unrestricted intake. 5. I like to mess with things. This car is not my daily driver so I can experiment and play. At some point I want to upgrade to a 968 6 speed tranny and possibly get a 3.0L bottom end at some point.. A 400-500HP rear wheel drive car with almost a 50/50 waight distribution and a 6 speed on top is something I've been wanting a long time. And I cant think of a better car to drive then a porsche. So it made more sense to me to get the MS system that would let me use a 36 tooth crank triger with a distributorless ignition system and allows me to tune the engine with boost, and other thigns that are supoprted by the MSnS version of that system. Water injection, nitros control, traction control..... alot of fun things to play with. If i stayed with the stock system i'd had to convert to a turbo DME any way at some point to be able to handle boost. Some might say, why not sell it and get a turbo....well i could have....but then i wouldnt know every bolt and nut that im learning about every day. Edit: Btw SoCal what do you think of the Krikit belt tensioning tool? I was gona go ahead and replace all the belts while I got the front end all appart (fitting a intercooler...man supra intercooler doesnt wana fit hehe) and I noticed your signiture mentiones a chaindrive that might need replacing, i need to look into that. I got my car about 7 years ago and I drove it for about 3 and it's been sitting here after I got married ( hehe sad isnt it) so I decided to resurect it, Im sure the belts need to be changed after sitting for so long, along with probably all of the rubber tubing, already a few of them dissinigrated in my hands while i was checking things over. I don't use a belt tensioning tool. My fingers are calibrated!!
![]() Really I don't use one. 84's don't have cross over chains. Just the four valve per cylinder models. The MS does have an input for a knock sensor but does not use this to retard the timing when the engine is pre detonating. This is critical for keeping the pistons together and/or not blowing the bottom end out of the car. The 951 (turbo) uses one. The inter cooler on the 951 goes in front of the radiator. The inter cooler on the 924's went beside the head on the passenger side. Used a hood scoop to feed it fresh air. This was an upright/vertical inline four. You will need a TDC sensor as well as an engine speed sensor. Since the 944 is already set up for the stock sensors (hint: the BMW sensors are the same but cheaper) best to use them. Also need the throttle body off of a turbo with the throttle valve position sensor. Unless the turbo TPS can be fitted to the N/A throttle body. No MAS? Interesting. Guess they use the throttle valve position feed back. Not the best thing to do but I guess it would work. Once you get it together I figure about two weeks of driving before you break it big time. The N/A engine is not designed to handle that kind of HP. I don't know everything. Sometimes I just make things up. YMMV.

You use a VW knock control box, its wired between the coil and the MS system and retards the timing when it senses a knock, its a standalone kind of system. Also I might be wrong but I think MSnS (MegaSquirt'and'Spark) variation of the MS system can take the input from knock sensor and retard timing. My throttle body has the throttle possition sensor, i didnt know non-turbo didnt have them but my is non turbo and does, so thats weird/interesting. Ye there is no MAS because the system uses a MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Preassure)

I still think you are wasting your time and a good 944 N/A. Sell it and buy a turbo.

Sounds like you got quite a project ahead of you...Sounds very cool and exciting though. If you do supercharge make sure you uprgrade the transmission first. One of the big things on this board when people ask about turboing there NA is that the NA transmission can't handle the extra hp. Let us know how it all works out
Good luck ![]()

Im currently installing a MAF to replace the AFM and I want to know the color coding of the wire and also which pin it is connected on the DME. I will also install a A/F meter and need to know the which wire to connect to and which pin it is connected to the DME.

Please note the nomenclature Porsche uses to refer to this device.
AFS pin 1 = DME pin 44 2 = 7 3 = 12 4 = 26 ![]()

Where are you mounting the 36-1 trigger wheel and sensor? Clewitt Engineering makes a bracket to hold a sensor that's bolted to the back of main crank pulley in front.
Don't forget you'll also need a variable-position TPS. A cheapo GM unit would work, but the Bosch 951 piece would be better. Personally, I wouldn't just replaced the bad speed/ref. sensor that you had and installed a MAF with matching chip. Pick a MAF with sufficent CFM range for the boost you'll be runing, then program the chips to match. The stock system with a 12x12 map has higher resolution than the MS system... |
