1987 944S Cam reference sensor
I just got a 87 944S, I am having issues with starting it and I have come across this sensor that is on the back of the cam gear housing. It looks like some kind of reference sensor. I need to know where to find this because I think it is faulty and causing my car not to spark. Thanks in advance.

The cam sensor works with the two knock sensors. It does not stop the engine from starting if bad or disconnected. It does keep the timing from agressively advancing if bad or disconnected. Same with a bad or disconnected knock sensor.
Check the module between the DME and the coil. These tend to go bad. Oh yes, it is called the "ignition module". Just follow the wires from the coil you should find it. The S models use one sensor on the flywheel. There are cast lugs or "teeth" on the rim of the flywheel that the single sensor reads. There is a gap in these lugs that is the trigger for the TDC timing. |
