balance shaft broken bolt
this is my first repair project on my new 87 n/a, replace the air valve. with the intake off I saw a broken lower bearing bolt, not a cover bolt. can this be repaired without removeing the balance shaft cover.

My Haynes manual is not the same as the 87 I'am working on. The broken bolt location looks like the location of the bearing at the rear of the balance shaft. The manual shows studs not bolts. I have a vibration at 3000 to 4000. I thought it might be motor mounts? Removeal of the balance shaft looks a bit complicated for me.

You really need to get a little more specific... check out www.clarks-garage.com and get a real good idea of what exactly you're looking at... something is getting lost in translation

If you are refering to the balance shaft cover; as long as it's not leaking oil it's most likely workable.
Your vibration is because the balance shaft pullies are not aligned correctly. Don't continue to drive with these engine vibrations as it will cause all sorts of problems including cracking the fuel lines and engine fires.
