968 Torque Tube Removal and Replacement
I am in the process of removing my 968's torque tube, to have the bushings within redone. The driveshaft is severely bent on the clutch side...
I have detatched the tube but I cannot get it over the (rear torsion bar) common point for all the rear suspension/body components. I have (2) main questions: (1) Since the torque tube is flanged on both ends and it spans over the rear torsion bar, is there a way to get it out without having to drop the entire rear suspension.. (This would make me happy!). (2) Does anybody know where I can purchase a used torque tube assy instead of going through the trouble of shipping and refurbishing costs... I may be cheaper, faster and "perhaps essential", if mine is now permanently damaged Any and all suggestions are very appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by jasonriverside; 05-02-2005 at 09:55 AM.. |

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Only way is to drop the rear suspension to clear the spare tire well.
Check out Clarks-Garage website under garage shop manual/torque tube rebuilding. It has a very good write up on rebuilding torque tube.
