JC Whitney has a universal turn signal switch that you clamp to your steering column, it should work, but it would look butt ugly.

Im tellin you www.dcautomotive.com

There is a part listed as a "914 turn and wiper column switches" but it also fits 924s/944 w/o cruise. I bought one listed exactly the same and it fits perfectly and functions and was $28.00.

Ahh, it went no longer available as of June 2003. Most likely they discontinued the brown switches and only stock the black ones. You can also try at a volkswagen dealer, as they are actually a volkswagen part.

Brown: 477.953.901.89S
Black: Same, but change 89S to 01C

They are still carried in the Porsche catelog, they may still be available from the dealer.

This is against the charter I know, but if Pelican doesn't carry it, why not help a fellow out. Try www.***********

am i part of a secret porsche parts clan now? :) well i checked out your site, im guessin what they have listed is in stock, 55ish, not bad at all seeing that pelican wanted the same price (no in stock though)
DCautomotive, 914 switch.. $28? i guess i found the one im getting, as for universal... NO (not bein mean just.. ehh its like putting honda decals on your porsche)

i just talked to a rep from pelican, they cant get it so i guess im trying DCauto now, and if that fails, the 'allzim' and if that fails... well then there will be hell to pay.. jk

thanks guys SmileWavy

I was kidding about the JCW universal one, I'd rather keep my window down and use hand signals!

bearone2 05-18-2005 02:52 PM

easy/european auto supply yard, partsheaven have tons of them, far cheaper than what you tried to order.

I've got a used one I'd be happy to sell. Works fine, AFAIK. PM me if interested. 'bout $20 plus shipping.

PhillysMostWntd 05-18-2005 09:26 PM

buddy, id jump on that offer, but this sort of thing i sleep easier if its a new part (dont know why, some sort of pet peeve?) but if it doesnt work out with DCauto then ill probably be sending you a pm

bearone2, no euro junkyards around here with any 914,924,or 944, although they have 2 boxters and 1 996 (totally smashed)

pokey, dont laugh, but the hand signals is what ive been doin all day while driving my car, people were starin at me like i was nuts

There's not much to a signal switch, so unless it's physically busted, I wouldn't worry about purchasing a used one. They are only composed of a lever, some contacts and a ball and spring. I pulled mine apart, cleaned and lubricated and reinstalled it, just as some preventative maintenance whilst I had my steering wheel removed.

Same can be said of the headlight switch in an early car. So long as the contacts aren't burned to a crisp due to overcurrent, they can be easily dismantled and repaired.

My old '61 VW Karmann Ghia was missing it's turn signal switch and lever altogether. I drove around for three years using hand signals. I got stopped by cops twice during that period because CA "outlawed hand signals", according to Johnny Law. I was able to talk my way out of tickets each time by BSing, saying that the car predated the installation of turn signals on German cars...

hahaha that worked? thats great man, yeah 2 cops have spotted me with my hand signals and i havent been pulled over yet so... but as far as cleaning it up and puttin it back in, i pulled it out, and it seemed like a piece was missing, and when i tried to investigate like 4 pieces fell out so i cant go back to that one, im about to go order one from dcauto right now, ill let you guys know how things go out with it

Check the Pelican Parts classifieds. There are lots of people there that are parting out cars. Also try 20th ST. auto in Phoenix. Good Luck!
