tachometer issue
frequently when I start my car the tach doesn't register. If I tap on the guage cluster the tach jumps to life and always works. What is wrong here? Is the speed sensor bad or the needle is sticking. I know the past owner had a new engine speed sensor installed within the last five years.

This is more than likely due to a loose/poor connection at the cluster. A defective tach may also be the culprit, but I would check the connections first. |
While it might be the connections, it might be that the tach needle is sticking in the bottom position. It happens fairly regularly with speedometers, but not that frequently with tachometers.

mine does the exact same thing... it's just sticking in the 0 spot on the dial - no harm done... just give 'er a flick.
