rear wheel bearing

I have an 89 944. It has an inner and outer rear wheel bearing on it. When i tried to order the seal i was told that an 89 has only one rear bearing on each side. Can anyone shed some light on this?

You should have the alumimum arms where there are two ball bearings in a single outside race but seperate inside races. It's considered a single bearing unit and has to be replaced as one.

The self locking axle nut should be replace and torqued to at least 350 ft lbs.

No, you drive the the hub out first. The you will need a hub pulling tool to pull the bearing out and press it back in. The trailing arm doesn't need to come off and it can be done in the car. Makes life easier to warm the trailing arm with a hot-air gun and put the bearing in the freezer. If the hub is worn where the bearing fits on it...will need replacing and they are expensive.

I guess I should ask which end the 924S has aluminum arms on. Front or back. If the back arms are steel then the process is a bit different. Take look.

Thanks guys. I've only been a Porsche driver for about a year. It sure is nice to have a place to go for information as the porsche factory manual is so expensive and kind of elusive. The Hayse manual leave a little to be desired. Once again thanks

Don't forget to replace the locking nut like SoCal said.
