a clutching problem
glad to see pelicanparts is still around, its been awhile since i visited. i'm looking for some help...my clutch has been acting funny for about a month, so i'm going to buy some parts and operate.
there's a strong vibration in the rear when taking off in 1st or reverse...whole car shakes violently and produces a knocking sound. its bad enough that i have to either stop trying to take off or increase rpm quite a bit and accel fast. I've discovered that this is not a good problem to have in DC traffic. the good news is that it doesn't slip any. This seems to happen only when i've been driving a while or i'm stuck in traffic...if its in neutral (and clutch not in) for a few minutes, then i'm allowed 1 normal use of clutch before reverting back to the shaking. seems like something is hot in there. sometimes i also have a fairly loud rattle from the clutch "area". so i've been searching through the old posts, and concluded to not worry about rattling and that the rubber peice is still intact. if i've missing something important from the old posts, please point me that way...i admitt that i've never seen the inside of a car clutch so this might turn out to be an adventure. thanks in advance Tim 85.0 944 |
I'm thinking engine mounts or transmission mounts. Does it shake when idling at all?

naah, its pretty smooth any time other than when using the clutch...also, the car will take off normally when i don't use the clutch alot. start-stop traffic and parking lots seems to really bring out the worst of it!

I got this problem for the first time yesterday when I got stuck in traffic for over a hour. The car shakes a lot with the first gear and then I just pushed the clutch and went from 1st to neural and then to first it was OK for a while and then the same shaking after a while again.
I found this post: Clutch problem What is the best for the transmission and for the clutch when you are stuck in traffic ? I always tries to use the clutch as little as possible and set it in neutral as much as possible. I thought this would be the best way for the clutch and transmission until yesterday when I started to think that it maybe better to let the first gear in and use the clutch. Which is the best when you are stuck in traffic for our 944 ? :rolleyes: I drive a 944 S2 -90. |
i read that old post...sounds exactly like our problem to me
i started having the shudder a little then it got worse, now when i go on a trip long enough to heat up the car i can barely park when i get there! seems like something is getting hot and warping. its always when i'm trying to use the clutch easy, not when taking off hard. what happens when the flywheel needs resurfaced? it reminds me of having a warped brake rotor here's an interesting post last year, same thing that turned out nasty http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=126847&highlight=flywhe el+resurface Tim |
