elecrtical problem

can anyone help?
my 87 2.5 lux 944 suffers a problem - every now and again while i'm driving all the needles on the dashboard fail / die and the speedo stops clocking up miles - the sunroof doesn't operate as well. I don't know what to do!

i thought it may be the immobiliser malfunctioning however the car continues to drive normally without a problem -
has anyone experienced this before?
are the dash and sunroof linked in any way?

please help!

Pull the cover off of the fuse box and see if the fuse for the sunroof is the same as for the instruments. Could have bad contacts inside the fuse holders. Then it could be a bad or loose wire some where under there too.

Get a hold of a Porsche repair manual and look at the electrical schematic. I had a ton of electrical problems and tracked it back to a loose ground wire in front of the drivers side wheel well. Car lit up like a Christmas tree when i tightened up the ground! 944's have a bunch of ground wires. If one of them has a poor connection, it can mess up the whole system.

My first thought, plus the easiest thing to rule out. A loose/dirty contact will do it everytime.

Sorry to horn in on your post Robbie, but I MUST have this problem too on my 951.

It runs fine, sometimes the windows will roll up, other times not. The cooling fans have been tested- they work fine, the thermofan switch below the top radiator hose replaced AND the cooling relay replaced ($$!). Sometimes the fans will come on if you push the AC button, most times not. The car will be running and just shut itself off, like you turned the switch! But it will start right back up again if you turn the key! My wrench says it is possessed!

I told him to check the grounds and he says they look okay. I told him to take them off ANYWAY, wire brush them and (maybe?) put some dielectric grease on them. But where are they all? I know about the negative from the battery. The strap from engine/bellhousing to body, one smaller in center rear behind carpet. Others? Other ideas what is causing this? Any help appreciated.
