Plug for the radio antenna came out, options?

The little male plug at the end of the radio antenna wire that plugs into your head unit has come off on mine. What are my options for repairing this? How would I go about repairing this or am I destined to replace the entire thing (which included the antenna power box right?)

You can buy just that antenna plug. I believe Radioshack would have that. It's not hard to install. You strip off the outer shielding, pull the wire back along the side of the outer shielding, then strip the inside wire on the cable, and push it in the new connector and crimp it on.

Check with Radioshack - if they don't have it look at crutchfield.com. I believe you need the european sized one.

you will find it is an absolute BEEYATCH to repair, I know I tried.
and I'm no hack !

you will see that the inner cable which needs to be soldered is EXTREMLEY thin, theres a couple of like plastic insulators and junk, and its very fiddly to do it right, without burning the insulation and stuff.

also if you do it plug it in and out a few times and it will brewak again

I tried 3 times and gave up. Also the plugs are ever so slighly differant on the ones you buy form radioshack etc.

The usual car radio jacks from the looks are differant as is the gauge of the wire.

I've left mine (I tend to use tape/MD) when I get a chance I'll get a booster from a breakers and fit that instead

(the booster unit had the aerial lead as well)

thats Porsche for you,,,, but hey dont let me stop you.

just a word to the wise !

ade`:)

Ya. I ended up giving up and just taped it. I know it wont hold very long but it works for what I need it for. I have a custom one that has the magnet antenna (like XM uses) that I use on my 66 Mustang, will probably go pick one of those up and use it on the porsche. Thanks for the tip though, and I will second that it is one hell of a ***** to fix

Take it to a car audio place - they shouldn't charge more than a few bucks to fix it right.
