location of oxygen sensor
Hi all,
I go underneath my car in the morning to find the oxygen sensor, but I couldn't locate it. I search from the exhaust manifold (4 pipes) to the catalytic converter but I find nothing... Could anybody tell where is it? Also, is the oxygen sensor with 3 wires, with or without connector? I am thinking to buy a cheaper one univeral for replacement. My car is 944S2, 1989, 3.0L, NA. Right-habd-side steeling. Thanks!! Kay |
Living in Hong Kong, you may not have an oxygen sensor. Most cars made for anywhere except the US did not have them.
The connector you see on the upper side of the pipe, just before the catalyst, is where it would be located if you had one. AFJuvat |
Hi,
Thanks for reply. Just in case if there is no O2 sensor in my car, how can it know the air/gas mixture rate?? I will go underneath again tomorrow. Thanks. Kay |
Most RHD cars didn't have O2 sensors. If it doesn't have a catalyst, it doesn't have a O2 sensor. The Motronic system has a map and uses sensors to adjust the fuel mixture. No need to touch it, just do the maintenance.

photo underneath
HI,
Since it keeps raining for a month in Hong Kong, I am still unable to raise the car and take a closer / find the oxygen sensor. I shoot and merge 3 photos -- just want to know what is it circled in red? Thanks. Again, I really couldn't find the oxygen sensor on the exhaust pipes.... maybe you guys are right -- there is no oxygen sensor My car -- 944S2 (3.0L) 89' Thanks!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1119778187.jpg |
That looks like a ROW exhaust so you have definately have no catalytic converter and most likely no oxygen sensor.
|
The O2 sensor is located on top of the exhaust manifold about 12" from the rear flange. You really can't see it from above or under the car, you have to feel for it. If you do have one missing, you'll clearly hear a very different sounding exhaust note.

RHD spec cars generally don't have 02 sensors and that isn't a catalyst, just a normal system.

That looks like a resonator.
