water leak

When ever it rain water comes through my tail lights into the trunk. I plan to take out the lights and re-seal the lights. What kind of sealant should I use to seal the leak?

You just need new rubber gaskets. They get old with time and crack.

I've used 1/4" "ribbon" seal. Same butyl based stuff as used for sealing windows/windsheilds. Same stuff used for sealing around early car blower motor sheilds. Available at your friendly auto paint stores. 3M is the brand I've used. Works best if its warm outside. If this stuff is cold, its harder to work with, so if necessary, warm it up, and torque the screws down little by little on the taillight assy. to get it to compress and seal properly. Any excess can be trimed off using a plastic scraper.....carefully.
