Ball Joints ?

I Have an '84 944. Recently I replaced the rack and pinion, tie rod ends, a new set of tires and alignment and drives great. But in the past week I have noticed a popping sound from the left front wheel area when going over uneven bumps, turns at slow speeds. I figured It is probably the ball joint at that wheel or bushings, maybe strut. I have not jacked up the car to check the ball joints yet. The car still drives great and handles fine. Just trying to narrow down what it may be.

Sh@@@ed Ball joints tend to click when you hit ridges and pot holes in the road. Also if your ball joints are on the way out your car will tram line and be less than confidence inspiring at speed.

That's what concern's me, the car tracks straight as an arrow even on a rough road, does'nt wonder at all. Only when I turn say, in a parking lot "POP". Uneven pavement "POP". Could it be spring /strut ?

With all that work into the front steering you should have done the ball joints and bushings on the a-arms. About $40 each. The poping could also be a loose top nut on the struts.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

I second the inner sway bar bushing idea. Take your sway bar off and go for a drive. When the bushings go, the bar sticks to the metal and when you put enough force on it it releases and makes a PONG noise.
