parts heaven is a pretty long drive for me though. Is there anything closer (so cal, thousand oaks... losangeles...) that would be a somewhat short drive for me?

20th Street Parts in Arizona has always done right by me. On the right coast you should contact 944ecology (I think that's what George calls it). The guys name is George Bruenslik (I know I butchered the spelling, but he's on the Rennlist Watercooled boards).

Yea I have spoken to 944ecology before. I am just looking for a chance to actually walk through a porsche salvage yard myself. Having parts shipped isn't as fun as taking them of yourself.
