Eventful day for the 944...

I just pulled my car out of the garage about three days ago and I've made some small progress on some small problems. It's nice to know that even one more small thing is taken care of. Today I:

Took the add in "PORSCHE" script light panel off and put the license plate back up there.
Got the license plate lights working...talk about ghetto wiring (the before, not after).
Got the radio working...Seems like someone didn't want to spring for the wiring harness and so just cut and spliced the wires into the deck.
Put mirror glass on.
Got all the fuses in order.

On Saturday I'm going to bleed the brakes, change the last caliper seal, and flush the radiator. Car gets a little past the last white tick until the fans come on. New thermoswitch is on the way. I hope flushing the coolant, cleaning the radiator, and putting a new thermoswitch in will solve my issues. I suppose I should probably put a new thermostat in also...

Items left on my to do list are reseal the rear hatch, put in new head lights and lenses, fog lights, door speakers, some rubber seals, replace some pins on a body trim piece...It never ends:-P I guess it'll keep me busy though.

Anyone else going doing any "summer wrenching"?

I just bought a 1984 944 5 speed a couple weeks ago, hope to get it home this weekend. I plan on changing plugs, wires, all the fluids, door speakers, radio, seat covers, and any more stuff that I find. I'll post some pictures when I get it home.

Nice! I'm thinking about heading up a special task force to track every 944 with that cheesy mod and dealing with it accordingly....................

Oh man I bet the PO who put that on didn't drill half inch holes in the panel and then paint the rest of the car once it was in place!

hello previous owner this is a dumb idea

First thing you should do is replace the timing and balance belts. Even before you drive it off of the sellers property. Or have it towed. THEN do all the other maintence lke plugs, rotor, cap, wires, air and fuel filters. Check the front a-arm bushings and shocks too.

One of the last things on my list for a 944 is the radio and speakers.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

We bought our car with the illuminated panel already installed, and while I never would have put it there....it doesn't look bad to me either. Maybe not having any script on it helps, because if I count the interior (P cloth) our car says Porsche maybe a hundred times already

Talk about eventful...

It was dark and I have not so good night vision...coupled with the not so good 944 headlights...I was pulling out of my friends yard and tagged the pole for his fence...not fast at all, I was just letting the clutch out but it still dented my ****...i have a dent in the right 1/4 panel now...

My buddies dad owns a bodyshop and said it isn't bad at all, he can fix it no problem..but that's not the point. I'm so pissed off at myself.....The dumpster caught a right jab.

I guess it can happen anytime...

Mine has the lens kit in it, except it says "944" I kind of like, just have to add a lighted licence plate frame to it, to be legal and all. PO did it, and I doubt if I would have bothered, but I'm not going to change it back to stock.

yeah mine as well has the backplate/light, says "porsche" doesnt look too bad as the red color actually matches the tail light color, PO had a lighted license plate, dealership took it off to put one of theirs on it, wiring still there, anyone know where you get a slim plain looking frame that has a light? (please no neon frames)

Oh man...the wiring on those panels...it was such a pain in the ass to hook up the license plate lights again. I should have taken before and after pics, if it wasn't for my good buddy Mike who wires stereos all day, I'd still be doing it. Now I gotta fill in the holes the screws left.

And fix that dent...

Got mine off Ebay. Here's a link to the same thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33654&item=7983318772&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I did find some stores on the internet that had them, but they were all in the 50 dollar range.

BTW, I just got mine in the mail, and haven't hooked it up, but it looks OK.
