re: electrical probs.

well, took a stroll round to see what was amiss, with my wiring, and was totally shocked at what i was shown. yet again, i seem to have dodged another bullet. from what the electrician tells me, this all started after i had my alarm system fitted. seems a couple wires got pinched, and the small fire started at this point. i had to listen to the sparky telling me how badly this alarm was fitted, and the botched up wiring job, which was apparently giving him a hard time! he could not believe that i had been driving this car, as apart from a couple erratic probs, all seemed well?? seems more than a couple of wires were back-feeding. talk about a ticking time bomb! sorry about the pics, but i guess it gives you an impression of what was going on. notice the area turned black by the fire!
hopefully the new harness will be in soon, and all restored again to proper running operation.
bob.

it was done by a local auto alarm shop. i will tackle almost anything mechanical, but i know my limitations when it comes to electrickery. seriously though, if you are having probs with your electrical system, i would strongly suggest to you, that you get someone to check it out pronto, as the risk of fire is very great.
now wondering why power from battery is fed to various locations/ outlets, then goes to the fuse box?? surely the fuses should be before the load/switch?? or am i missing something!
just goes to show, i try my best to keep the car in great condition, and keep up with all maintenance in good time, but there is always the unexpected, just waiting to jump up and take a lump out of your a$$.

PMWTD, sorry, meant to say about the alarm. its a normal, basic type. nothing too fancy, but its extremely loud, and only adjustment is to vary the sensitivity of the sensors. 4 levels i believe. cant for the life of me remember the make/model. still shell-shocked from scene of carnage!!
regards, bob.

I found somewhat the same thing when I picked up this early '85 project car. Someone had started wiring in bypass wiring to compensate for non working systems, like the tach, internal and external lighting circuts. When all was said and done, and after removing a bunch of extra, non OEM wiring crap, I ended up having to replace a bunch of relay bases, the entire fuse block, and repair/splice many other wires that were just plain broken or toasted. If things got to backfeeding like it did on my car, you really need to take a real good look all the way to the back of the fuse block where the main connectors hook in at the back of it. You may find more damaged, toasted pins back there. I sure did!

hi granite, yes, you got that one right! not as bad as the pins in your pic, but a couple had been toasted!
hopefully getting the car back monday, or tuesday. it gives me the chance to test it all out, before heading down to 944 fest. it would not look too smart, having the car turn into a funeral pyre at a big meet !
regards, bob.
