Decreased miles to the gallon??

When I first got my 944 a few years ago, it seemed I was getting 20-22 miles per gallon. Recently however, my mileage is something like 15 MPG. I change the air filter frequently. Car seems to be running well. My driving habits have not changed. Have made no modifications to the engine. Hmm...I have noticed that it idles slower now when it is "cold" (750 vs 950). After it has warmed up a bit, idle is fine.. I do know that I am due for new plugs, cap and rotor..

Anyone have any ideas??

Also, in California, what is the lowest octane rating I can use in my 83 944? ( looking to save money by going to 87 from 89 octane..

Thanks
Gordon

If your fuel pressure regulator is on the way out, you will burn more fuel. On the other hand, going from 20 to 15 seems a bit extreme.

could be a lot of things. As mentioned above, plus clogged cat... actually just about any tune-up item could also contribute

Having a big hole in the front doesn't help either.

You should run 87 octane, according to the owner's manual. I need to run 89 in my 924S, now that I have a 10.2 compression engine, Iwas getting a slight knock when accelerating on a hill with 87, but not with 89.
