Paint scheme...comments?

OK it is time! I have finally "finished" upgrading the suspension with coilovers and 951 parts...I've done the brakes with Big Reds...the engine has all new valves and springs, cam, ECU, exhaust, throttle body...and now she has a new clutch and aluminum flywheel...I have purchased a 951 Fiberglass front for the 944 and am getting ready to start the body work/paint. I had a friend layout some paint schemes to my specs and I would like to know what you guys think

Man, how did he do those graphics? When I try stuff like that, it turns out waaay sucky.

Just for kicks, do you think he could do a scheme similar to #4 with the old school race look:

I like the layout of #4, but not the colors--the black/blue reminds me of a pair of Air Jordans which I used to own.:)

CJFusco 07-19-2005 07:20 AM

I kinda like #2, but I am thinking that the line that follows the tops of the fenders should naturally follow into the crease that bends the headlight tops and the nose panel... so I think the top part of the nose panel/headlight cover should be black, and then should be blue underneath the crease... see what I'm saying?

If you look at the car from the side, this line starts above the tailight/below the 944 emblem and continues over the fenders, under the windows, to bisect the headlight over

drfatz 07-19-2005 07:20 AM

I'm considering #2 or #4.....the graphics were done by a graphic designer :-P

drfatz 07-19-2005 07:21 AM

Unfortunately this was done as a favor in his off time so I don't think I could get him to do more any time soon :-/

ilikemy944 07-19-2005 08:52 AM

#1 is effin hot
don't do a random square on the hood :)

drfatz 07-19-2005 09:26 AM

Well #1 is the side veiw that is a deffinate, I guess the choice is between 2-5...I'm really having a hard time with this one I can't make the wrong choice or I will have to live with that paint job forever :-P

PhillysMostWntd 07-19-2005 11:18 AM

any of those look great to me, just id go with a darker blue, that one seems a bit light for my tastes, number 4 would be my fav though

ronniebaldino 07-19-2005 11:47 AM

I agree with a couple of posts back. Follow the line you are using in #1 all the way around the car. The line in question goes around the front halfway down the front panel and light covers. You know what, I will fix it myself. Give me a couple of minutes.

I like em all, Love the two tone Idea, try playing with some other colors and see what you get

Sorry about the hack job, I am on my laptop and don't have a mouse.

drfatz 07-19-2005 01:18 PM

LOL...That’s possible, but I like following the front bumper line better...however I do like the pure two tone look. As for colors I think I have decided on the VW GTI Anniversary Blue for the bottom and VW GTI Anniversary Black Magic (My GTI Anniversary Color :-P ) for the top. It should be noted that there will be a nice silver pin stripe between the two colors. The idea was schemed up by yours truly after seeing Chip Foose work his magic so many times :-)

ronniebaldino 07-19-2005 01:25 PM

Are the wheels in the first pic yours? If so then what about blue or black centers?

chitown944 07-19-2005 01:29 PM

Man I love what u have going here. #1 Is tops please stay away from striping the hood. It looks way nicer with the hood being all black kinda like "Ronniebaldino's" Pic only I like the Black starting from the front of the nose panel and not halfway up. I also like the idea of the silver striping seperating the black and blue. The Silver softens the hard lines and gives it a classic old school look. Great Job.

Dantilla 07-19-2005 02:32 PM

The last picture is very similar to my race car, except for the colors.

My car's original color was a bland gold called Kalihari beige. I left the top part (the black in your pix) and painted the bottom the bright electric blue that Subaru uses on WRX's. Then matching gold numbers on the doors, and blue numbers on the hood. Sorry I don't have any pix on this computer.

Looks great. I get lotsa compliments.

Guess my taste is a little different, I would go with #5. I like when the stripe is thin and goes all the way down. Awsome idea for a paint job, and the colors rock.

bryanthompson 07-19-2005 03:04 PM

changing my vote to #1. It looks pretty classy, out of the rest. I still want to see what a 944 looks like with that 917 paint job though.

drfatz 07-20-2005 05:46 AM

#1 is just the side view, its just there to show what the rest of the car will look like :D I'd have to say I'm leaning toward #5. The project is going to start this weekend. I will post pictures here as the car is stripped, filled, primed, blocked and painted for all of you who are interested in painting cars yourself. As soon as the paint work is finished I have Corbeau fixed back buckets (blue and black  ) along with racing harnesses going in. Finally the interior is going to be completely removed except for the dash and door panels.

P.S. Those pics are not of my car, they are what the car will look like when its finished (hopefully) The actual car can be seen at http://www.cardomain.com/id/drfatz

You sure are putting a lot of $$ and time into this car all at once, drfatz. I can't wait to see it all finished :)
