rpm vs fuel efficiency

Right now my car idles at ~900 rpm, like normal. I think my motor mounts are dieing so the car rumbles a bit. One day I put my foot on the gas and let the car run at 1000 rpm. The rumble went away and I think the car ran more fuel efficient. I looked at the mpg gauge under the tack and it confirmed the fact that the engine ran better. I'm considering adjusting the idle screw to make the car run at 1000 rpm. Are there any reasons why i shouldn't make this change?

Fuel use is from load (torq) demand.

Replace the engine mounts.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

See if you can stick most of your hand between the cross member and the oil pan. From the front. Engine cold.

If you can barely get your finger tips in the gap then you need engine mounts.

It would be a pointless fix that only masks a more serious problem. Don't do it.
