Hood Insulation removal

I ordered new hood insulation. What's on there now is 21 years old it disinigrates when touched.
I have scraped it all off except for the glue.
I have the motor/fenders covered with a tarp.
What works best for removing that crap without the risk of damage to other area's?
Has anyone tried 3M adhevise remover?

I used goo be gone with good results on the underside of my hood. I have also used 3M adhesive remover when cleaning up under some carpet in another car. It left a residue on the paint that I washed off sucessfully with soap and water.

That's what I was thinking because I have used a heat gun and scraper to get under coating off.
I was just afraid of what the heat gun might do to the paint on the top of the hood.

I have the same prob, i tried the heat idea and the 3m adhesive remover and both just barely work. Im thinking of taking the hood off to turn it upside down and let it soak

Just keep moving the heat around, so that no one spot gets to hot.

I don't know why you are so critical in removing the old adhesive. You're just going to spray more on it.
