Quick door handle question

Hey guys,
I broke the trigger part of my drivers side door handle off a couple of days ago. I am looking at bidding and hopefully picking up this door handle of Ebay
1. How hard is it to replace the lock and put the one I have in on my current handle?
2. What is this "installation screw" he is talking about? Can I just take it off my current handle?
3. This isn't too much to be paying for the door handle is it?
Thanks,
Nate

In addition; you can take the door handles out by removing the retaining screw that is inside the door jamb. Slide the handle forward and pull the back out first. Once the handle is hanging outside the door (tape up around the door handle opening so you don't scratch the paint) you can reach in with a thin blade screw driver and pop the ball socket clip off.

You will need to put the key into the tumblers before you remove the screw from the back side. Remove the tumblers with the key in them. Watch out for the pins as they will want to pop out. I take the tumblers apart and clean everything, relube before re assembly. Be sure to get the same side handle and if possible the same year range -- early or late. You can use the later handle(s) but may have to put your pins in the new tumbler barrel or rearrange the ones in the newer tumbler barrel.

Watch the orientation of the tumbler when reassembling the tumbler into the handle. The lever has to move equally both directions.

Putting the handle back into the door is a bit more challenging. in that you need to pop the fitting back onto the ball, put the handle back into the door and check the linkage adjustment. If you are lucky you may have to take the handle out and adjust the linkage only once.

Wow thanks SoCal, it seems like you are always answering my questions SmileWavy Hopefully I win this auction so I can stop having to open the passanger side door and reaching across to unlock the drivers door... oh so humiliating.

Think the handles on the early 944's are the same as the VW rabits of about the same years.

I am going to have to do this job too eventually...Mine is slowly but surely getting harder to open on the drivers side...

May have the black plastic snap stretching out. Or it just needs a good lube.
