Hi Everyone,
I have seen a lot of positive feedback about FR Wilk's performance chip in this forum...But I think it deserves yet another one ![]() I installed the chip on my '86 NA 944 yesterday. I was *very* impressed by the obvious improvement in performance! My initial impressions: 1) Substantial improvement in throttle response (at all gears) 2) A much more smoother torque/power curve 3) The engine runs much smoother during cold starts (ie. no hesitation) Overall, it feels as if my 944 is now fully awake. This is truly the best bang for the buck...! Nice.
I've been on the fence (still am) about paying up (I have an early car, more expensive). Perhaps I should at least buy the adapter board before he runs out, if it isn't too late. |

had mine for about 3 years, and never looked back! also, i initially messed up my installation, and contacted FR.WILK. ended up sending my dme out to him. many many times, i have had questions about the power prom/dme, and everything else from afm, to sensors, and he always e-mails back with an answer. great product/great service, and a great guy.

I will not quote any HP gain numbers based on feeling...But I think the improvement in torque, which is just as important as HP, (and driveability) is there without any doubt.
I'll never go back to the stock chip configuration, that's for sure... ![]() Humberto |

Interesting that you note much improved & smoother start ups...
My current & former 86 na and my old 89 951 all seemed to run a lil rough at startup & take a min. or two before running real smooth... The chip cured it?

Yes, I have run the car a few times now starting from a fully cold state. And in all cases I did not experienced any hesitation whatsoever (note that I am not allowing the engine to warm up at idle for too long, before I drive the car - whch is not desirable anyway).

What exactly is involved in an early car chip upgrade? Is it something that can be done by a complete mechinical zero like myself? If so I am going to get one for sure. Wilk if i send you my DME do you put in the chip and then send it back?

Don't worry, it's not tough. First, check to make sure that you actually HAVE a 1983 DME in your car (the first time I did mine, I found out that my DME was from a 1986 car, but the AFM was my stock unit!), THEN order the appropriate chip and/or adapter board. Installation on an 83 unit requires snipping three or four chips off the old motherboard, and then soldering in the adapter board. The upgraded chip snaps into place on the adapter board. Detailed instructions are included with your purchase. I really didn't know what I was doing the first time around; it doesn't hurt to ask for help. Surely you have a friend or two who is adept with electronics/computers to help with the soldering, if it is your first time?
