Trying to fix turn signal
 

Alright, so I got the wheel pulled off and I'm looking at how the turn signal works. The problem with mine is that the left turn signal does not auto cancel, the right works fine.

Left turn signal for illistrative purposes:

It doesn't look like there is any way to get the entire assembly off to take it apart and see things further. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the left TS?

Also, what is this copper strip for? Is it bad that it has a hole in it?

Also, it is raised up off the base it's attatched to, but I assume it settles back when the wheel is on. Should I try and repair that hole?

Apparently the little tab guy is worn down. Guess I should have searched clarks-garage.com before I posted:-/ Oh well, now I have to figure out how to take the switch out and build it back up.

Anyone know what the copper strip in my 3rd pic is for?

Umm.... I had the exact same problem, and somebody made the following suggestion which worked: take electrical tape and wrap it a few times around the tab on the steering wheel thingy that rubs on the turn clicker thingy. It totally worked, for some reason.

the reason it worked, it extended the tab on the wheel enuff to make contact with the cancelling tab on the switch.

it wasn't magic or voodoo.

don't know about the hole but when the t/s lever is moved up/down, the cancel tab on the switch has to stick out a little.

if it doesn't, not sure it can be fixed, it needs to be replaced.

thats the short that fries my wireing harness ..take the car to an an auto elec. mech. and have him disconnect the euro parking light feature...or 1500.00 and 6 months later????

The euro parking feature is built into the turn signal mechanics. Not easy or even possible to remove it. Maybe disconnect it at the harness plug. Maybe.

Wait a minute, the hole in that copper strip is releated to the parking lights? What does that strip do, exactly, and how can I go about properly repairing it? I figured it was for the horn because my horn stopped working and my horn fuse was blown. Do the horn and parking lights share wiring? Can someone provide more detailed information on this problem? I would REALLY like to fix it properly, no ghetto fixes.

Now I'm all nervous...

theres a ground leg in the turn signal / wiper switches connector ...i believe something shorted across this ground because i heard a rubbing sound when i turned my steering wheel one day...after a week....i was smokin

Bad turn signal assemblies have to be replaced. There is little that can be done to repair them. Including the berillium copper horn contact. You can also replace the contact ring on the inside of the steering wheel.

Thanks SoCal. Is this a fix that needs to happen right away? For example, is it (could it?) short and catch my wiring harness on fire? If it's important I'll scrounge up the money, but if not, then I'll wait until I can find another job.
