Voltage Regulator install..driving me nuts

So in the process of ridding myself of electrial gremlins I took the Voltage Regulator out. It appears to be shot, or at least the brushes do, but nobody around here carries it(!) and I HAVE to have my car tomorrow. Actually, today..but anyway.

The problem: the brush closest to the back is really loose, and every time I go to put the regulator in, the brush falls forward . I'm kinda thinking it's not supposed to do that, but I can't seem to get it in without it doing that. Am I right? Is this thing hashed? What's going to happen if I put it in and the brush is fallen forward? How much **** am I going to break then?

Thanks,
Quickly Getting Frustrated

Well it doesn't matter now...I broke the brush trying to put it in. It was all loose and weak and what not, and I caught it on a piece of the alternator and broke the brush. Ooops.

Can't wait till my dad gets home and realizes he can't put the BMW in the garage. I'm so dead...

The way the regular fits in, it goes in at an angle and then snaps up. It felt a little unnatural to me, but it works.

Hopefully you can find another one pretty quick. I'm sure AutoZone can get one to you next-day.

AutZone said they'd have to send it in..take like 3 days. All the other parts stores said the same thing, I couldn't believe it.

Eh it was stuck in the garage for a LOT longer:-P See I don't care, but my dad, after getting home from Minnesota, is going to care. Guess I didn't inhereit the mechanic jeans. Oh well, the alternator shop has a spare and I'm picking it up tomorrow.
