A clutching situation!

Well my car died right after its 3rd time across the country. I had 3 votes R&P and 2 votes clutch. Well after much time and effort in a parking lot I finally got the clutch out. I will post pictures. Needless to say before i got it off i was being hit with pieces of rubber. I have a spare tranny that i will be putting in with a short shift and all. The TT probibly will be rebuilt, new exhaust, and most importantly a new clutch, spring centered. I am unsure what to do with the flywheel, i dont think that it is warped but it may be grooved a little bit. I should probibly pull it off to check it. The pressure plate had a date of 92. most of the miles were put on the car before then and i bought it with 150K it now has 191K I dont remember a recipt for the clutch but i would guess 80-100K.

Thanks for the pics, I was wondering what it looked like in there, my clutch is clunking on my 87 and I know that the center is broken. I will be replacing with a spring clutch this winter I think.

Bet you don't make it to "this winter". A broken center clutch may last two weeks, maybe a month of regular driving.

i just pulled the flywheel. I dont have pics of that, i may later. At what point should it be resurfaced and at what point should it be replaced. It is smooth without much groving at all. But what worries me is the colors of it. It looks like it has gotten quite hot at a few points in its life and there is one patch of color that is the size of a dime run over by a train. I would love to replace it with a fidanza but thats expensive. I have also just heard that a light flywheel could cause probelms when racing. Something about the motor spooling too fast and the DME would loose track of the engine sensors while shifting. I dont know if that is true or not. I have to check how this this flywheel is first off.

When I got my car, I could tell the rubber was busted. I was able to drive it for about 2.5 months until I could get it in the shop for service. However, I don't recommend going that long.

Many don't recognize a busted clutch rubber and drive it hard. Over two months is pure luck.

I've had to put mine back together with the same pressure plate and flywheel due to severe lack of funds. Gets a little funky when hot in stop and go traffic.

Well BUTT*****!

Looks like you gone bought a clutch

The dead clutch was a rubber center? Looks like it...

Question about clutch longetivity... A spring-center with broken springs is guesstimated to last how long with delicate driving?

pull the flywheel, take it to a machine shop and get it measured and turned. It costs about $40. Replace the 9 bolts and the rear seal since you are in there.

Since you have the thing off... Lighten it a bit. Stock flywheel weight minus 5lbs maybe?

Really not worth the trouble to get them lightened. The flywheels have a certain weight/inertia for a reason.
