is it dangerous.....

to use a battery ranked with a higher amperage?

for example... the battery that was in the 944 when i got it was, i believe, 400-something cold cranking amps... and 300-something amps...

as some of you may know, I have a starting issue with my car (search "no start" under my username for the post and details...)

to remedy this i thought i should buy a new battery seeing as how the acid in the battery my buddy gave me out of his wrecked rx8 was leaking out...

the guy a Canadian Tire told me that this battery should work - it was for a 2003 Mustang with 600 cold cranking amps, and 700-something amps....

is it dangerous to use this battery in my car?

(btw - i hooked up the new battery and tried to start it with no luck - damn).

it's turning a v8 and the higher amps won't hurt.

it's size/will it fit, does it have the same foot to hold it down/how you will secure it, are are biggies.

IMO, i think you are fine. if i am not mistaken, this rating is the available power for starting you car. then again, i am an electrical sub-genius.

No, it is not dangerous.

With a battery, amperage is the maximum deliverable power, not the power that is actually delivered. If there is a 400 amp draw and the battery is rated at 300 amps, then 300 amps are delivered. But if that same 400 amp draw is pulled from a 600 amp battery, 400 amps are delivered and the battery has a reserve capacity of 200 amps that is not being used.

To use the common example of water through pipes with a battery as a tank with a pump. A battery's amperage is the amount of water in the tank. The voltage is the pressure at which it can supply that water. As long as you're still putting out 12 volts of "pressure" simply having more water in the tank doesn't hurt things.

the battery fits perfectly in the space provided...
so i should be good...

but still to hunt down the electrical problem preventing my car from starting...

ok, ignore this thread now - unless you have something else to add... I'm gonna revive my "no start" thread and update it...
