Squeeking in neutral with clutch let out

I was letting the car idle and checking out my oil cooler leak(still there) and noticed quite a loud squeeking from under the car. It sounds louder towards the back, but I imagine its just reflecting off the driveway.

It went away when I depressed the clutch and actually sounded like it was slowing down before it stopped. Like something(driveshaft?) was spinning and took a few rotations to slow down.

I've never noticed the sound during driving, though I'll have to listen for it more closely now.

Does anyone know what this might be, and whether its cause for concern? My best guess is the driveshaft or something in the transaxle, since that seems like the only other thing which would be spinning with the clutch engaged and the car in neutral.

I did replace a CV boot this weekend, so I took one axle off, but that shouldn't matter with the car stopped, out of gear.

Thanks, Ian

Sounds like a torque tube bearing to me. Not a good sign, they are a bummer to replace.

I just looked at the clarks-garage procedure on rebuilding a torque tube and I am in no way interested in that, it looks terrible. Almost as bad as a clutch.

Any chance its something else? Or that it could be fixed without removing the torque tube?

Any reason this would have suddenly started happening?

-Ian
