Cams from another car same model have diff. part#?

In my other Thread I'm having trouble with my 16v head. I have two S2 heads and two sets of cams and noticed the part numbers from one set are slightly different from the other set.

One set of cams have the following:
944.105.275.3R
944.105.277.2R

The other set have:
944.105.275.2R
944.105.277.1R

The last two digits don't match.
How come?

They are not part numbers, only casting numbers. You need the correct last two numbers for parts identification.

944S2 cams from 89-91, both US and ROW spec are:

Intake 944 105 277 07

Exhaust 944 105 275 09

If the other ones you have are different, maybe they are 944S cams.

I don't think they are S cams. They look exactly the same when I checked. I have an 88S in my garage, if I have time I may pull the cover just to be sure. The numbers I posted were the only numbers found on the cams themselves. There's no reference to the last two digits I posted on the latest PET. Just the number you posted. I'm thinking they may refer to a casting date.
