No Temp Reading & No Fan

Drove down to the License Branch yesterday ( about 26 miles rt) to get my new tag and noticed that I didn't have any temp reading on the gauage. Got home and it was unusal for the fan not to be running after I shut off the car. Can anybody give me a clue as to what to look for...??

Started up and runs fine...even gave me plenty of heat tonight out on a short run...10-15 minutes...yet no temp nor fans again...this just started happening this week...

Seems odd...the thermo switch that controls the fan is completely separate from the sensor that drives the gauge inside. You could verify that the thermo switch still works with a volt meter and a pot of boiling water.

You say the heater heats, otherwise one would suspect the thermostat at the water pump stuck open.
