engine running hot caused by bra?
Hi folks...need an educated opinion here...ever since I put a bra on the 944 (about 6 months ago), it seems that the temperature gauge is a full tick higher at operating temperature and the cooling fans run practically non-stop...I only use the car as my weekend toy so the "cause and effect" never occurred to me until today...it seems like too much of a coincidence, but I wouldn't have thought that the bra would help retain so much heat....has anybody else had the same problem? I'd hate to have to remove it (it covers up a multitude of sins), but if it saves the engine and electrical system from overworking, I may have to.
Whatcha think?

OK, guys...I took it off and I'm charging up the battery...the fans running full-time killed it...I'll take it run a run tomorrow and hope that was the cause...is there such a thng as a thermostat only partially opening and would that account for the higher temp without it overheating?

I doubt that putting a bra on your car traped enough heat into your car that it made it run a full tick higher. You seem to be on the right track though, if it seems to run lower tomorrow, then i guess yo uhave found your cause. Let us know for general information.

bobcat,
there is a long history of bras making the 944 run hotter... but it shouldn't be extreme. Run it for awhile without the bra, see if there is a difference.

Two years and 35,000 miles in Hawaii with a bra on mine, and it never ran hot.

Hi folks...CJ was right...I took the car for a short ride today and the temperature gauge ran a full tick lower (right at the 12 o'clock mark)...fan only came on once and that was when I was putting it in the garage and the gauge showed between 1/2 and 3/4...after the fan came on, temp gauge went right back to the 12 o'clock mark...I'm going to take the 944 back to Cignatta Auto Works sometine during the next few months to have my new timing belt adjusted, so I'll put it on the "punch list"...

My early 85 always ran hotter with the bra on.
