Front Hood Seal
What exactly does this do?
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_BDYsel_pg2.htm Had a pretty good rain storm a few days ago and the 944 looked like a swimming pool. I know I'm going to replace both sunroof seals and the hatch seal, as well as check the battery box and all that. But what purpose does the hood seal do. I mean the water has a run off from the battery box, and everything in front of the engine just goes straight to the ground. What am I missing here?

This seal is there mainly to help keep fumes from engine compartment from getting past the firewall, and allowing them to be sucked into the heater blower motor and into the car.
Swimming pool huh. Make sure the drain holes and their rubber flappers (if still there) are open and clear on both sides of the cars cowling area. If your constantly parking your car on an incline (nose up) you will get some water collecting back there, but it should drain out soon after car gets driven and or leveled out again. ![]()
