Question about spacers on 944

I have a guy selling some chrome wheels off a 993 and they're 16X7's and 16X8's. Ihave a 83 944 that im fixing up. He said you might need spacers which im not too keen about. He's not sure about the size spacers i need and he keeps mentioning about the offsets and mm's, also i hear they're quite expensive, but these wheels are nice and will definitely bring the car out. My question is what size spacers i would need to apply these wheels on my 944

the problem is , if you put a spacer on you may not have enough stud sticking out to put your lug nuts on. Id be willing to bet you wont need spacers. Heres what you want to know, what is the back space on his rims. that is if you laid the rim down and lay a stick the rim then measured from outside edge of rim to where they bolt up. then check yours. Yours are probabaly 4 or 5 inches.

Those 993 wheels are late spacing. You will need spacers. Measure accordingly.

Also, if you don't have enough stud sticking through, you can get spacers that you can bolt down and have studs sticking out so you can use your lugs still.

Upgrading to modern wheels on these early cars is really worth the effort and money. IMHO

I obtained similar rims to "upgrade" but decided against it and sold the 16" rims. I had to replace all the bolts and had to insert some serious spacers. In a porsche workshop manual (can't remember where) I have read that the early cars must not be fitted with these later rims - no reasons given. Possibly additional stress on the wheel bearings??
Fitting all those new bols and wide spacers are pretty expensive.

Yes Im deciding against it also. Just by searching around for and pricing for spacers, these bad boys cost a arm and a leg. If wheels were the only thing I need for this car then I could handle it, but if I buy these wheels and spacers Im out at least $1,200.00. I see a guy selling some phonedials with tires and at a real great price that would fit directly. Then I can get rid of my cookie cutters with basically brand new tires and save some money but this puppy needs a complete interior makeover, a paint job along with a little body work.
