Rose colored 944?

Does anyone know anything about the Rose colored 944's with the two tone pinkish cloth interiors? Were these special models? Did they come this way in a turbo? Any help would be appreciated.

It was, if I remember correctly, only available on the 88 951S. The color is Silver Rose, or Silber Rosa. Guy who works up at Stoddard has one that is literally mint, with something like 29K miles on it at most and it is striking.

They were loosely based on the Porsche Turbo Cup racer of the day. They had a larger turbo over the standard turbo thus generating 250bhp at 6000rpm, 30 more than standard. And yes they were built in 1988, around 1600 were built.

I have one... but it's not for sale

There were a few for sale here in Canada last I checked. The Canadian ones don't have airbags though, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to import one.

Check www.canadatrader.com

have any pictures of yours? I'll start looking around for one in the classifieds but importing one from Canada may be an option.

I just saw a Silver Rose blasting through the rain on the other side of the highway yesterday. Quite the classy look.

I seem to remember this topic coming up about a year or so ago, and the general consensus was that they are hard to find, but not impossible. Unfortunately, there are some rael beat up ones floating around, too. Shame.

Actually, only the turbine on the turbo was larger, the compressor side is the same. And the 951S was rated at 247hp.

Honestly, the performance and speed of the 951S can easily be surpassed with a few modifications made to a regular 951, so unless you're looking for a concours car or want to keep things stock, there's little reason to prefer a 951S to a regular 951.

Theres a bunch of pics there. The biggest problem with the interior is that the cloth is quite thin and wears through quite easily. Someday I may reupholster the seats, but until then it's one piece racing buckets.

Actually Aaron,
There is ALOT more to want a Turbo "S" then just a bigger turbo then stock.

Better wheels, The 928S4 brakes, larger sway bars, ect...Its always going to be worth more then a "regular" 951...

Both are great cars, but the 944 Turbo S was a very special beast!

I miss mine!

Bad clarity on my part. I'm aware of the suspension and brake upgrades, was just correcting the poster I quoted who said that the turbo's compressor was larger (it's not, only the turbine is) and mis-quoted the HP.

The 951S will command more than a regular 951, however there's nothing on a 951S that can't be retrofitted to a regular 951, and usually a regular 951 is a better choice if you're going to be modifying the car since a regular 951 is much cheaper in initial cost (my '86 with sport seats, 951S turbo, re-done head and bottom end, chips, MBC, and some minor other goodies was $7,500 and it's in incredible shape, dyno-ed 275hp/300ft-lb at the wheels) and the differential in price between that and a 951S can then be used to place the basic 951 well above the performance of a stock 951S.

This isn't to say that I don't like the 951S, it's an amazing car. Just that I don't think it's the wisest choice if you're going to be making modifications to the suspension and drivetrain since a regular 951 will have the same potential for less initial investment.

Aaron

Though the parts you remove are easier to sell/trade. If you have a second 944 series car you can do the handme down thing.

LOL c'mon man that's a nice picture! I'm actually quite new to digital photography, so I've been practicing in lots of different conditions. That red car in there is my 944 that's been receiving the odd 951S part.

You'll find alot of good info on the Silberossa 951S here: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/.

You'll also find one for sale occasionally -- you just have to keep searching. (PS, mine is not for sale).
